The Anomaly emerged before we knew what was happening.

It shows up in unexpected locations, reducing local normality in extreme cases.

For example, if you proceed along this path and look back, the donkey will still be standing. It is not possible to determine which of these states came first. This appears to be a macro-quantum effect in which the donkey is both standing and lying down.

The Anomaly has also appeared in unexpected ways at strange locations. Chernobyl was once a thriving city under the rule of the USSR. Now it is a wasteland.

In 1986 the Chernobyl reactor melted down. At least, that’s the official story.

Chernobyl is now home to a black fungus that feeds off the ambient radiation. It feeds on light and lives in shadows. The Anomaly is like a parasitic plant, drawn away from its cosmic abode to our little blue planet for the sublime flavors of energy that humanity creates, that WE create. The concrete sarcophagus over Chernobyl, which the unlucky workers made to seal in the darkness… is failing.

In spite of multiple interventions through time, we have failed to prevent the Chernobyl event. Instead, we managed to usher in the first World War. What had historically been a minor series of skirmishes turned into a meatgrinder for boys across Europe.

Earlier, we sought to stabilize France. King Luis XVI was hearty and healthy, but due to an error in our team’s calculations the French Revolution occurred. And the shadow of the Anomaly came back in the 1790’s with it, filling the dreams and visions of one young Robespierre with guillotines. Our beloved king and friend lost his head.

No, history wasn’t what it is today. These are hard lessons.

The Anomaly is drawn to high-energy events. The high frequency and electrically high amplitude required for time travel is no exception, and it has plagued our little island without mercy. Every shadow becomes suspicious at night.

We must stop the Anomaly. If we do not, every apocalyptic faith may be fulfilled early. Ragnarok is at hand.

Keep your fire lit.
